ASU Sun Devil Crit 2015 in 17 Pictures

On February 8th 2015 some of the best fixed-gear riders in Arizona took to a unique and scenic course at Arizona State University's famous Gammage Auditorium. Here is a recap that includes some great shots from photographer's Jeffrey Olsen (@jeffreymolsen) and Jeff Dalton.

Riders line up to start. You can see historic "A Mountain" in the background: The Tempe Normal School class of 1918 was responsible for installing the first letter on Tempe Butte. When the school changed its name to Tempe State Teachers College in 1925, students retained one side of the "N" to form the stem of the "T." The school changed its name to Arizona State Teachers College, and in 1938, the letter "A" was installed on the butte. In 1952, a bomb blast destroyed the letter. The present "A" stands 60 feet tall and was built of reinforced steel and concrete in 1955. Guarding the "A" : Each year, during the week leading up to the ASU vs. U of A football game, the coordinates the guarding of our beloved gold "A" from being painted by U of A students.

The men got off to a quick start and the field quickly got strung out.

Lindsey rounds Gammage on her last lap. It was designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and was originally scheduled for Baghdad, Iraq. But the building was never erected and the plans were shelved until 1957, when ASU president Grady Gammage contacted Wright about designing a concert hall. Wright produced his old plans, the deal was made and construction began in 1962. Neither Gammage or Wright lived to see its completion. The first event staged in the $2.46 million venue was a performance by the Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Eugene Ormandy, on Sept. 18, 1964. The auditorium contains 3,000 seats, all of them within 115 feet of the stage.
