Review of the State Bicycle 4130 Gravel All-Road bike. For $799 is it any good?
State Bicycle All Road Bike Review - $799 Gravel Bike!
To many people, gravel biking is a way to simplify their riding and take it back to the early 90s when you didn't need 40' doubles or death-defying rock slabs to get your thrills, and a canal towpath could be classified as 'fairly technical'. Well, what if you could take it back even further, all the way back to the Repack Races of the 70s and the Klunkers raced by the forefathers of the sport.
State teamed up with NASA to launch a line you can ride to infinity and beyond. Three jerseys, a bib and a reflective jacket are all festooned with logos, but that's not all. Four components — a stem, seatpost, handlebar and bottle cage — rock an eye-popping iridescent finish.
State Bicycle Co. hit a sweet spot of affordability and versatility with the 6061 Black Label All-Road, an aluminum drop-bar bike that straddles the line between rugged road bike and adventurous gravel bike. It sports a traditional aesthetic that belies a modern take on what a drop-bar bike can be. Tubes are mostly round, internal cable routing is minimal, and there isn’t a plethora of eyelet mounts. There are no claims about vertical compliance engineered into the rear stays, the 1-1/8th-inch steerer tube fits most standard stems, and the aluminum stem is refreshingly standardized, fitting handlebars with a 31.8mm clamp diameter.
State Bicycle Co. is a big name in the fixed gear bike community. If you ain’t fixie foo, you still might get a kick out of their heady, counterculture-inspired cycling gear. The Peace Jersey is part of the brand’s recent Sustainable Clothing Collection which is made - you guessed it - with recycled materials. Rock the Tie Dye for a look that says “this is actually part of my cross-country charity ride.”
State Bicycle Company’s 6061 Black Label All-Road is an entry-level alloy gravel bike with a 1×11 SRAM Apex drivetrain, 650b or 700c wheel options and a decidedly affordable $1,399.99 price tag.Built around a pleasingly simple alloy frame with a matching carbon fork, the bike looks super-versatile, with generous tyre clearances and mounts for mudguards, pannier racks and bikepacking luggage.
The State Black Label All-Road follows up their ultra-affordable steel gravel bike from earlier this summer, with a new alloy frame & build that saves up to 5lb, while retaining pricing that won’t break the bank. Lighter and faster the new 6061 Black Label aluminum frame gets a new carbon fork too, plus fast 700c or more-capable 650b options to build up a very affordable bike for gravel, commuting, or bikepacking…
With the ever-increasing popularity of gravel and all-road bikes, State Bicycle Co’s latest model is yet another geared bike, with a bit of versatility and affordability built-in.

The flip-flop hub lets you go from single speed to fixie on a whim. Personalize the bike with bullhorn, drop, riser or pursuit bars. Six sizes fit riders from 4'10" to 6'6". And at 20 pounds, it’s light enough to throw over your shoulder and carry up a flight or two of stairs.

"The best gravel bike overall is the State Bicycle 4130 ALL-ROAD. You can customize its wheel size to fit the terrain you want to ride in and opt for other accessories like the saddle, pedal type, lock, or water bottle cage (find out more)."
My name is Mehdi Farsi, I'm the co-founder of State Bicycle Co. in Tempe Arizona. A steel road bike with downtube friction shifters is a departure from everything modern. It’s comfortable, sporty, and capable as well as being inexpensive. If your road bike identity lends itself more to cruising the city than it does shooting for fastest times the State Bikes 4130 is a good choice.
If you know State Bicycle Co. at all then you will know the look of this bike’s frame, which matches the brand’s classic road bikes in the 4130 series. But this? This is the ALL Road, and some of those roads can be made of gravel or dirt. While the handlebars are shaped much like you’d expect on a road bike or commuter, the rugged frame and heftier wheels of this bike will let you keep up with your mountain biking buddies out in the back country, then you’ll leave them in the dust in the city. The bike can be fitted with frames to hold gear on both the front and back, making it ideal for longer bikepacking trips or for carrying cargo (groceries, e.g.) in the city.
State Bicycles overarching mantra is riding bikes because it’s fun. They don’t get hung up on counting grams and the like, and are only concerned with producing quality bikes that will keep spinning for many years to come, and most of all are a blast to ride.
Tempe-based fixed gear and single speed bicycle brand State Bicycle Co. has released a collection that celebrates The Notorious B.I.G., and more specifically the rapper’s six-time platinum debut album, Ready To Die.
This is easily one of the best bikes for the price on the market. Whether you’re looking to go on an outdoor adventure or just down the street, the 4130 can handle gravel, commuting, and touring. It’s also highly customizable, with both 700c or more rugged 650b wheel options, as well as an 11-speed drivetrain. As a smaller human, I particularly appreciate that the frame can accommodate riders as petite as 5’1 (of course, if you’re over six-feet, it’ll work just fine, too). While the Chromoly steel frame is extremely tough and durable, the bike isn’t terribly heavy, weighing in at around 22 pounds. The 4130 All-Road is available in two frame colors and four sizes, and starts at under $800.
If your commute’s looking a little longer than a nip around the corner — but will still see you following mostly main roads — then we’d suggest a road, or racing bike. These lightweight two-wheelers tend to have thinner tyres, fewer bells (and whistles, for that matter…), and curved handlebars to ensure you can really make the aerodynamic best of your morning ride. Some don’t even have gears weighing them down. State Bicycle Co’s 4130 Sokol is an ideal fixed-gear option for those style-conscious cyclists who still need some speed. Shand’s Leveret benefits from countless helpful innovations; including a carbon belt drive that means no messy chain marks on clothes and an internal gear hub that’s impervious to the weather. And Whyte’s Dean V1 boasts a top of the range Shimano GRX groupset, full hydraulic brakes and tubeless tyres — to ensure punctures are a thing of the past.
State Bicycle Co. got together with the The Christopher Wallace estate to come up with nice Notorious B.I.G. tribute collection. It’s nice cycling collection inspired by the late HipHop artist album “Ready To Die”. It consist of a T-shirt, 3 cycling kits, custom bar tape and a complete track bike!
A few years ago State Bicycles linked up to do a project with the legendary emcee/activist Killer Mike. They made a custom 26″ BMX Cruiser for him and kept one for themselves. They sat on the custom bike for a long time and then decided to give it away to support and raise funds for the Los Angeles Bicycle Academy.
Unless you have a legit reason to bring a car with you to school, chances are good the only vehicle you need at college this year is a bicycle. Many campuses are all-inclusive or close to downtown, meaning everything you need access to is within walking—and riding—distance. After all, having a car means finding parking, paying for gas, and maybe even using it late night when it might not be the best idea. Plus, many colleges don’t allow first-year students to keep a car on campus, anyway. So there’s that. We rounded up 10 affordable and reliable bikes to help you cut travel time between classes, run errands faster, and maybe even meet new friends—all while keeping the dreaded freshman 15 at bay.
To raise funds and support the Los Angeles Bicycle Academy, State Bicycle Co is giving away this special bike. The 26" 4130 Chromoly steel-framed BMX bike features 175mm gold-anodized three-piece cranks and matching gold-anodized 6" bars on risers with a "Killer Mike x State Bicycle Co." ID. Only 2 bikes were made, one for Killer Mike himself, and the one that is being given away. You can enter into a drawing for a chance to win the bike by making a $10 donation to the Los Angeles Bicycle Academy and the randomly selected winner will be chosen on June 27th.
