Monday Motivation with Victoria Reyes

Hi there! I’m Victoria Reyes, a lettering artist and designer living in NYC. Over the past 8 weeks, you may have seen my designs on the State Bicycle Co. Instagram for Motivation Monday. If you haven’t, then please go check it out!
Thanks to my good friend, Will Pay (go look at his lettering work, now!), I was approached by the SBC guys to create custom designs for their "Monday Motivation" Instagram series. For the past year and half, I have been using social media as a way to stay motivated and practice lettering as much as I could. So of course I had to say yes to this amazing opportunity!
After college, I moved back home to Florida and began freelancing as a full time package designer. I had a lot of free time so I decided that I would use it wisely. I started sketching a ton and decided I would vector every piece I wanted to post on Instagram. I fell madly in love with lettering and the entire creative process. Eventually it became a part of my every day routine and there are no signs of stooping anytime soon.
Anything can be well designed and State bikes are just that. They are beautiful pieces of art, each with their own unique personality. So naturally, I had to let the bikes shine in each piece I created. This really challenged me to figure out how to fuse everything together cohesively. Animation also became an important part of my process because it allowed me to incorporate an element of movement, which I thought was import considering the subject of the series was cycling!
Without a doubt, the most important thing I have learned is that you are never finished learning. It doesn't matter the subject or how long it takes you to pick something up. The important thing is that you are constantly acquiring new skills and knowledge. So with that said, my next challenge is to learn how to "safely" ride my beautiful new State bike in New York City...
Thank you so much for reading! Also, a big thank you to Mehdi for this opportunity and Jeffery Olsen for the beautiful photography.
