My Honest Review of the Carbon All-Road

My first ride on my new Carbon All-Road was rather disappointing. About 20 miles into the ride the chain broke. On inspection, it was the master link that failed. Not at the connection, but the pin broke from the side plate. I had a chain link tool so I was able to squeeze it back together. The repaired link was stiff but functional. By keeping the chain on one of the largest cogs, I was able, but slowly, to get back to the car. I have since replaced the failed link with a known brand master link. Until the brake pads are broke in I won’t be doing any steep recents, because as of now the braking efficiency is underwhelming.
Today I went on my second ride and I must say I really like this bike. I’m a retired bike mechanic so I have a pretty good knowledge of bikes. I’ve been an aggressive rider for over 50 years and I can still hold my own hanging with the young bucks. This bike is fast. Today I set 5 personal bests on a route that I had previously exhausted my bests. I feel very confident leaning the bike over through corners at speed. My ascents are faster without having to stand up and overall the bike is very responsive. In the hands of a young buck this bike would fly.
While my first ride may have been disappointing I can now say that this bike is a great deal. Even if I have to replace some components down the line I have no regrets and would gladly buy it again.
So, there is my honest review. Take it or leave it.
