Excellent “go anywhere, do anything” bike!

I received the bike 10 days ago and have ridden 180 miles. It’s quickly becoming my favorite commuter. In stock form, I really don’t think it can be beat in terms of versatility and value. I made a few revisions and it really brought the bike to the next level for me.

The brakes work great. I would take the State branded brakes over most of Sram’s offerings right out of the box.

The drivetrain works. The shop had to really dial it in and disassemble/lubricate the shifter to mitigate some “sticking” but it did absolutely work once dialed in. I opted to snag a Deore 12 speed derailleur and shifter as an inexpensive upgrade,, this only cost me $55 and was absolutely worthwhile. The Deore components works well with the State cassette.

Handlebars: The stock riser bars are a lot of fun but I was leaning more towards longer distance touring geometry. I settled on a 110mm stem and FSA Metropolis bars. This was the best combo for me and my riding style. Very much for the upgrade in my opinion.

Tires/wheels: my commute is 70% road and 30% gravel. I bought the 27.5 version with the intent of snagging a second hand 700 wheelset at some point in my life. Honestly the tires roll really well on the street. My Strava times are not much slower than on my 700 road commuter. I’ll likely keep this bike on the 27.5’s for a long while. The hubs sounds nice and have good engagement.

Overall I was on a mission for the best budget bike, and what I got is much more than that! I’m very happy with my purchase.

Perfect all around bike!

Got my bike about two weeks ago. I’ve probably put 100 miles on it already! It’s simply amazing! It shifts smooth and stops really good better than a lot of mechanical disc brakes I’ve tried. Only thing I would recommend changing is the handlebars they was a little narrow for my liking. The gearing is perfect especially with the mullet option which I got! Makes steep hills a breeze! Setting this bike up for Ragbrai then going to ride it on the tour divide next year! Can’t wait!!

Fantastic Bike!

What a great bike! The components and finish of the bike exceeded my expectations. Currently I have it on my trainer while I make adjustments for the upcoming gravel season.
